A graduate of Manhattanville College, Carter studied voice at the Pius XII Institute in Florence, Italy, where she and Sister Margaret W. McCarthy shared a room. Carter gave concerts in the New York metropolitan area, taught music at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J., and served as director of the Brookdale Creative Arts Camp at the college.
